advice center against everyday racism
Short presentation
Racism is unfortunately omnipresent in our society – whether in the form of open racist hostility, structural discrimination in numerous social institutions or in subtle everyday racist statements of which many people are often not even aware.
Discrimination is part of everyday life for many people in the Mettmann district, including when looking for housing or work, when dealing with authorities, at school and in public. Here, people experience exclusion, rejection or discrimination because of their supposedly different ethnic origin, their skin colour, their legal status, their language or their religion.
The advice center against everyday racism supports those affected and helps them to assert their right to equal treatment. Everyday racist discrimination is to be combated and ended through concrete advice for individual seekers, through intensive cooperation with our network partners and through a variety of preventive services.
As a joint project of the Workers' Welfare Association in the Mettmann district, the Caritas Association for the Mettmann district, the Diakonie in the Düsseldorf-Mettmann church district and the Paritätische in the Mettmann district, the offers are designed to be confidential, independent, low-threshold and barrier-free.
The work of the advice center consists of four components: advice, prevention, networking and anti-racism work.
