Research and Information Center on Antisemitism NRW
Short presentation
The Research and Information Center on Antisemitism North Rhine-Westphalia (RIAS NRW) receives reports of anti-Semitic incidents and supports those affected by anti-Semitism in North Rhine-Westphalia. It is run by the Association for Enlightenment and Democratic Education, is funded by the Ministry for Children, Youth, Family, Equality, Refugees and Integration of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia and works closely with the federal association RIAS. Based on the reported cases and its own research, RIAS NRW regularly writes state-specific reports on anti-Semitism, carries out educational and public relations work and thus contributes to the fight against anti-Semitism.
The basis of RIAS NRW's work is the working definition of anti-Semitism by the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) and the aim of portraying anti-Semitism in all its forms as accurately as possible. RIAS NRW takes anti-Semitism of all kinds and forms of expression seriously, regardless of whether it is Islamic, right-wing, left-wing, Israel-related anti-Semitism or everyday anti-Semitism in the middle of society. An anti-Semitic incident can be, for example, a casual remark in conversation, an anti-Semitic graffiti or a physical attack. The question of criminal liability is not decisive for the recording of an incident. You can find more information about our working methods and categorization under the menu item Working methods.
Depending on the wishes and needs of those affected or those reporting, RIAS NRW provides further psychosocial, legal, anti-discrimination and victim counseling, assists in dealing with the authorities and the police, carries out public relations work and publishes individual anonymized cases. The central principle is the protection of confidentiality: those affected and witnesses decide how their report and their information are handled. RIAS NRW stands on the side of the people affected by anti-Semitism.
