Introduction to Initial and Referral Counseling

Start: 24.09.2024 End: 25.09.2024

In order to ensure low-threshold access to anti-discrimination advice, binding initial and referral advice structures are necessary (Federal Anti-Discrimination Agency, 2013). As part of the “Community-based Advice” project, a two-day online module on the topic of initial and referral advice will be offered in September. This is also aimed at volunteers and teaches the basics of referral advice. What is initial and referral advice? What tasks are part of initial and referral advice and which are not? What (legal) aspects must be taken into account in referral advice? How can an initial consultation be conducted?

In peer case consultation, participants directly apply what they have learned to their own counseling practice. This format involves discussing and reflecting on current cases from everyday counseling work. The sessions are led by an experienced expert in anti-discrimination counseling who supports participants in developing concrete courses of action, incorporating the module content.
