Online lecture series AGG reform - Part 6: Beyond AGG

Date: 21.08.2024 at 10: 00 - 12:00

As part of the online lecture series “Anti-discrimination for all: The potential of a comprehensive AGG reform for more equal opportunities and participation” from April 24.4.24th, 21.8.24 to August XNUMXst, XNUMX, we took a closer look at the demands for the reform of the General Equal Treatment Act (AGG) that are coming from civil society - represented by the AGG Reform - Now! alliance. The lectures provided a low-threshold introduction to the AGG and the various criticisms of the law and illustrated them using case studies from practice.

At our final event “Beyond AGG Reform” on the occasion of the anniversary of the AGG coming into force on August 18.08.24, XNUMX, we would like to discuss what other measures are needed - in addition to the reform of the AGG - to put anti-discrimination into practice. Together with Nathalie Schlenzka (Federal Anti-Discrimination Agency), we would like to look at the role and impact of state equal treatment offices and, in particular, discuss the (im)possibilities of promoting anti-discrimination advice centers and supporting those affected. Saraya Gomis will tell us about her experience as former State Secretary for Anti-Discrimination in Berlin and the success and failure of anti-discrimination processes in institutions. She will also discuss what institutional framework she would have needed during her term of office in order to be able to fully fulfill her role.

Nathalie Schlenzka is head of the research and policy department at the Federal Anti-Discrimination Agency, where she has worked since 2011. In recent years, she has dealt with issues such as discrimination in the workplace and education. She also works for the ADS on institutional discrimination and the risk of discrimination in the context of ADM systems. Before that, she worked for many years as a research assistant in the field of migration and integration research at the Berlin Institute for Comparative Social Research/European Migration Center and the Alice Salomon University in Berlin. She studied political science at the Free University.

Saraya Gomis is a part-time student and involved in anti-discrimination work
